JONATHAN YI // CO-DIRECTOR + CINEMATOGRAPHER
is the director of HBO’s award-winning documentary series EAST OF MAIN STREET, which premiered its fifth successful season in May 2015. The show stars Daniel Dae Kim and Lucy Liu. He is also an accomplished commercial director with clients including American Express, Intel, Skype and many others. Before his career as a director, Jonathan worked as a commercial cinematographer and has taught several years of Advanced Cinematography at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He consulted for Canon USA on the groundbreaking development of the Canon EOS C300, which he and Michael used exclusively in the production of Mad Tiger.
MICHAEL HAERTLEIN // CO-DIRECTOR + CINEMATOGRAPHER
Michael has worked as a cinematographer for networks including NBC, CBS, Discovery, The Food Network, A&E, TLC, MTV, VH1, The History Channel, Animal Planet, and several more. Something Michael has shot has aired on television almost every day for the last seven years. He was recently the Director of Photography and Producer for a Discovery Channel mini-series in Southern Afghanistan following combat missions with Army Route Clearance. As a producer, Michael produced a feature film starring Tatum O’Neal with the legendary producer Frederick Zollo. Some of the other clients Michael has produced for include the Food Network, Bravo, and the post-production department of JWT.
JOSH KOURY // PRODUCER
Josh is a documentary filmmaker whose feature length film titles include Standing by Yourself (2002), We Are Wizards (2008), Journey to Planet X (2012). His film work has screened at film festivals all over the world including the Tribeca Film Festival, SXSW, Slamdance Film Festival, AFI Docs, and the Sheffield International Film Festival. His latest film was acquired as an Epix Original Documentary and had its broadcast premiere nationwide in May of 2013. Additionally, Koury co-founded the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival where he served as Programming Director for four years. He also spent four years working at the Hamptons Int’l Film Festival as a Programmer and their Programming Manager. He is currently a faculty member at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
HISAYO KUSHIDA // EDITOR
Hisayo has edited numerous feature documentaries including The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief, and Mongolian Dreams. Hisayo also has numerous editing clients including Vogue, Thompson-Reuters, and HBO. Hisayo edited part of HBO’s “East of Main Street” series for Jonathan Yi which began their collaboration. Hisayo became involved with Mad Tiger shortly after filming began. Her creative input from an editor’s perspective throughout the shooting process has proved extremely valuable. Hisayo is also fluent in Japanese which has illuminated story details that were otherwise missed by Jonathan’s limited Japanese language skills.
